Sri Lanka Customs Department has announced an open competitive examination for recruiting Assistant Superintendent of Customs Grade II. This opportunity is open to degree holders across various disciplines, aiming to recruit around 150-160 candidates. The application deadline is June 8, 2026, and submissions are accepted only through the official online application portal.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Must be a Sri Lankan citizen with excellent character, aged between 21 and 35 years as of the closing date.
  • Physical fitness standards: Males – minimum height 5 feet 5 inches and chest (expanded) 33 inches; Females – minimum height 5 feet 3 inches.
  • Must hold a degree of at least 3 years duration from a recognized university or institution. Applicants awaiting results are ineligible unless they have an official letter confirming degree completion.
  • Minimum English proficiency: Credit pass in GCE O/L English or a simple pass in GCE A/L English.

Examination Details

The examination will be conducted in Colombo in August and consists of two papers:

  1. Aptitude Test: 1 hour, 100 marks; tests language proficiency and reasoning through multiple-choice and short answers.
  2. English Language: 1 hour 30 minutes, 100 marks; evaluates writing, reading, comprehension, and communication skills.

Applicants may choose to take the exam in Sinhala, Tamil, or English medium. A minimum of 50% in each paper is required to pass. Candidates are ranked based on total marks, with twice the number of vacancies shortlisted for interviews.

Interview and Selection

Passing candidates attend an interview where marks are awarded for sports and additional skills evidenced by valid certificates. Recruitment is competitive, and up to 10% of vacancies are reserved for female candidates. Successful recruits will begin as Assistant Superintendents with promotion opportunities up to Additional Director General of Customs based on performance and qualifications.
